$100,000 John's Call Highlights Wednesday Card at Saratoga
On Wednesday at Saratoga, the highlight of the racing card is the $100,000 Johns Call Stakes. The long distance race will be contested at a mile and five-eighths over the Mellon Turf Course and has drawn a field of nine with one horse entered for the main track only.
Winning Cause has been tabbed as the 2-1 morning line favorite for perennial powerhouse Todd Pletcher. The four-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway will have John Velazquez in the irons as he attempts to earn his first win of the year. A $200,000 purchase as a juvenile, the chestnut colt has won four of his twenty starts and has been competing mostly against graded stakes competition, most recently finishing fourth in the United Nations (G1). He is scheduled to break from post position eight.
Royally-bred Micromanage makes turf debut
Also for Todd Pletcher is Micromanage, a multiple graded stakes winner who is 3-1 on the morning line from post position five. Javier Castellano will be aboard carrying the blue and orange colors of Repole Stable. The multiple graded stakes winning son of Medaglia d’Oro, a $170,000 yearling, is trying to rebound off of a seventh-place finish on the main track in the Suburban Handicap (G2) in his most recent start. He will be trying turf for the first time.
Holiday Star going for first stakes win
Graham Motion will send out the lightly raced Holiday Star at odds of 6-1 on the morning line. Bred and owned by George Strawbridge’s Augustin Stable, the four-year-old gelded son of Harlan’s Holiday will have Edgar Prado aboard and the pair will break from the outside post. He has won three of his ten starts and will be trying to earn his first stakes victory.
