$100,000 South Beach Stakes Draws Field of Thirteen
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, fillies and mares will take to the turf in the $100,000 South Beach Stakes. Scheduled to be run at seven and a half furlongs, the race has attracted a field of thirteen with one additional competitor entered for the main track only.
Sassy Kitten, a homebred daughter of Kitten’s Joy for Ken and Sarah Ramsey, has been named the favorite at odds of 7-2 on the morning line. Trained by Michael Maker, the four-year-old filly has won four of her eight starts this year and is trying to rebound after finishing eighth in the First Lady (G1). She has been training sharply since that race and clocked a recent bullet workout at Gulfstream Park. Joel Rosario has picked up the mount and they will break from post four.
Tokyo Time going for first stakes win
Claude McGaughey will saddle the second choice, Tokyo Time, at morning line odds of 4-1. A four-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro bred and owned by Emory Hamilton, she has won three of her eleven lifetime starts and will be attempting to earn the first stakes win of her career. She was last seen finishing fifth as the favorite in the Nobel Damsel (G3) at Belmont. Regular rider Javier Castellano has retained they mount and they will break from post eleven.
Tuttipaesi (IRE) trying to rebound second off the bench
Also in the field and 8-1 on the morning line is Tuttipaesi (IRE) for trainer Bill Mott. The four-year-old daughter of Clodovil (IRE) made her stateside debut a winning one in January of 2013 at Gulfstream Park in the Ginger Punch Stakes. After two more competitive efforts against stakes company, she went to the shelf and returned in November of this year with a sixth place finish against optional claiming company. Ramsey Zimmerman has the mount from post seven.
