11 Line Up For Grade I $750,000 Beverly D. Stakes
From a betting standpoint, the $750,000 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park looks far more intriguing than the big race as eleven fillies and mares are set to contest the mile and three sixteenths race on the turf.
Stephanie’s Kitten is the lukewarm 7/2 favorite on the morning line despite entering the Beverly D. on a four race losing streak. Still, the Chad Brown trainee appeared to take a major step towards regaining her old form in the Grade I Diana on July 19. Ridden by Frankie Dettori in that race, Stephanie’s Kitten overcame a troubled beginning and made a bold run in the stretch to fall a neck short of Somali Lemonade – a rival she faces again in the Beverly D. Dettori retains the mount on Stephanie’s Kitten as the five year-old mare makes her third start off the layoff which often produces a runner’s best effort.
Brown has the top two choices
Chad Brown’s other entry, Alterite (4/1), also exits the Diana where she finished a disappointing eighth while tiring badly in the stretch. That performance, however, can be overlooked as she was making her first start since the Breeder’s Cup Filly and Mare Turf in November. With the added conditioning under her belt, Alterite figures to be much tougher in the Beverly D. Javier Castellano again takes the mount on Alterite.
Euro Charline gets more ground
Contention goes deep in the Beverly D. with three European invaders also in the mix. Euro Charline (8/1), bred and raced in Great Britain, is an interesting item for trainer Marco Botti. She won her most recent contest at Royal Ascot July 25 and was beaten just three parts of a length in the Group I Coronation June 20. Euro Charline has never raced beyond a mile.
