$300,000 Grade II Prioress Looks up for Grabs
The $300,000 Grade II Prioress Stakes for three year-old fillies August 30 at Saratoga has the potential to be a very good betting race with at least five horses in the field of eight appearing evenly matched.
Sweet Whiskey, the 2/1 morning line favorite for trainer Todd Pletcher. Sweet Whiskey shortens up to six furlongs after consecutive grade one defeats in the one mile Acorn and the Test Stakes, run at seven furlongs. The shorter distance could suit the daughter of Old Fashioned, who has shown the ability to stalk and pounce against quality competition including her victory in the Grade III Old Hat Stakes in January also at six furlongs.
Miss Behavior should be running late again
5/2 second choice Miss Behavior bettered Sweet Whiskey in the Test, finishing second after tracking the leaders throughout. She is a perfect three for three at the six furlong distance and red-hot jockey Javier Castellano retains the mount for trainer Phil Schoenthal. In a race where several could vie for the early lead, 6/1 shot Stonetastic could be asked for his best from the opening bell after setting splits of 21 and 44 for the quarter and half mile respectively in his last race at Monmouth Park.
Southern Honey could be live at 10/1
Southern Honey (10/1) did not show up in her last start, finishing a dismal ninth in the Test Stakes behind two of her Prioress rivals. However, her winning performance in the Grade III Winning Colors May 26 at Churchill would be good enough to best these rivals.
