Asmussen Filly Tops Field for $100,000 Debutante Stakes
Steve Asmussen will saddle Adhara as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 for owner and breeder Winchell Thoroughbreds. A dark bay daughter of Cowboy Cal, she will try to earn her second consecutive victory after breaking her maiden in her career debut by 6 ¾ lengths over four rivals. She has been training steadily since then and will get a jockey change to Corey Lanerie as she makes her stakes debut. They will break from post position two.
Areolite trying for second straight victory
Asmussen will also send out the second choice on the morning line, Areolite, at 5-2 odds. Another homebred for Winchell Thoroughbreds, the gray filly is a daughter of Tapit and will be making her first start against stakes company. She delivered as the even-money favorite in her career debut at Churchill Downs in May. Julian Leparoux, aboard for her maiden win, will be back in the irons and they will break from post position six.
Speedy Don't Boss Me making stakes debut
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Don’t Boss Me for trainer Ron Moquett. Purchased for $40,000 earlier in the year, the chestnut daughter of Street Boss will be stepping up to stakes competition after a minor upset maiden victory in her first start. The front-running filly held off four rivals in her debut. She will get a jockey change to David Osirio and they are scheduled to break from the outside post.
