Asmussen Has Formidable Duo in $200,000 Honey Bee Stakes
On Saturday at Oaklawn Park, the featured race is the $200,000 Honey Bee Stakes. Restricted to three-year-old fillies, the Grade 3 event is a prep race for the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and will be contested at a mile and a sixteenth with a field of six.
Nickname, one of two fillies in the race for Steve Asmussen, has been tabbed as the heavy favorite at odds of 7-5 on the morning line. A dark bay daughter of Scat Daddy, she was purchased for $350,000 as a yearling and has won two of her five starts. As a juvenile, she won the Frizette Stakes (G1) before finishing fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). She was second in her three-year-old debut and will have Corey Nakatani aboard from post position four.
Class test for allowance winner Terra Promessa
Second choice at morning line odds of 5-2 is Terra Promessa, the other filly trained by Steve Asmussen. A bay daughter of Curlin bred and owned by Stonestreet Stables, she has been on the board in all three starts and has two victories. She is stepping up to stakes competition for the first time and was last seen winning an allowance race at Oaklawn Park. Ricardo Santana, Jr. will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
Marquee Miss looking for third straight stakes win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 3-1 is Marquee Miss for trainer Ingrid Mason. A bay daughter of Cowboy Cal, she has won three of her six starts and will be trying to earn her first graded stakes victory. She is two for two as a three-year-old and is coming into this race off of back to back stakes wins at Oaklawn Park. Channing Hill will be in the irons and they are scheduled to break from the outside post.
