Big Blue Kitten and Legendary Rematch in Grade 3 Red Smith
Aqueducts signature turf race, the Grade 3 $250,000 Red Smith Handicap, features a field of eleven set to go the mile and three eights distance on the turf November 15 in New York.
Big Blue Kitten has been installed as the 8/5 morning line favorite for trainer Chad Brown with Joel Rosario in the irons. In four starts this year, Big Blue Kittten has one win, two second place finishes and a fourth place effort. In his last start October 19 at Woodbine, the six year-old son of Kitten’s Joy ran second in the Grade 1 Canadian International Stakes. Overall, Big Blue Kitten has amassed over $1.4 million with 11 wins in 24 lifetime starts.
Legendary staying sharp
The remarkably consistent Legendary is the 7/2 second choice for trainer Niall Saville. Legendary has recorded nine consecutive in-the-money finishes dating back to December 9 of 2013. The five year-old son of Exceed and Excel enters the Red Smith with four wins in his last five starts including a victory in his last start – the Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes October 11 at Belmont. His lone defeat in that span was a third place finish in the Lure Stakes August 2 at Saratoga to Big Blue Kitten.
Barbaro's brother finding best form
Margano (20/1), a full brother to 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, has been running well of late and exits a key allowance race at Keeneland where he managed to finish third. The second place finisher in that race, Bad Debt, won a stakes race last weekend at Gulfstream Park West.
