Breeders' Cup Heroine Tepin Returns in $150,000 Endeavour Stakes
The stakes action will continue on Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs with the $150,000 Endeavour Stakes. Scheduled to be run at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf, the Grade 3 event has drawn a field of seven fillies and mares.
Tepin headlines the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 7-5 and is one of two horses in the race for trainer Mark Casse who will also saddle the former Queen’s Plate champion Lexie Lou. Tepin, a five-year-old daughter of Bernstein, will be making her first start since defeating male rivals in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) and taking home the Champion Grass Mare Eclipse Award. She has been training steadily and will have Julian Leparoux aboard from post position five.
Lady Lara (IRE) back off of three-month break
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Lady Lara (IRE) for trainer Bill Mott. A five-year-old daughter of Excellent Art (GB), she is a five-time winner and a multiple graded stakes winner. She has been on the shelf since winning the My Charmer Handicap (G3) in November at Gulfstream Park West. Jose Lezcano will be in the irons and they will break from post position three as she makes her seasonal debut.
Partisan Politics looking to return to form
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Partisan Politics for trainer Chad Brown. A four-year-old daughter of More Than Ready, she has been on the board in five of her ten starts and will be trying to earn the first graded stakes victory of her career. She has been fifth in her last two starts, most recently in the Marshua’s River Stakes (G3). John Velazquez will be aboard from post position two.
