California Breeding Industry Shines Saturday at Santa Anita
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the featured race is the $200,000 Snow Chief Stakes which will highlight the states successful breeding program. Limited to three-year-olds sired by a California-based stallion, the mile and an eighth turf contest has drawn a field of six colts and geldings.
Gold Rush Dancer headlines the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 9-5 for trainer Vann Belvoir. Bred and owned by John Parker, the dark bay son of Private Gold has been on the board in eight of his ten starts and is a three-time winner. He has been competing against primarily state-bred competition and was last seen winning the Silky Sullivan Stakes at Golden Gate Fields. Flavien Prat will be in the irons and they will break from the outside post.
Tough It Out looking for a rematch
Second choice at morning line odds of 2-1 is Tough It Out for trainer Philip D’Amato. A gray son of Grazen, he is a homebred for Nick Alexander and has been on the board in six of his nine starts. He is trying to earn the third victory of his career and will be trying to turn the tables on Gold Rush Dancer after finishing second to him last time out. Joseph Talamo will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
Grade 1 winner Ralis trying to return to form
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-2 is Ralis for trainer Doug O’Neill. Owned by Paul Reddam, the bay son of Square Eddie has the same connections as Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Nyquist. Ralis was a Grade 1 winner at two but has failed to hit the board from three starts this year and was last seen finishing tenth in the Pat Day Mile (G3), Mario Gutierrez will be aboard and they will break from the inside post.
