Compact but Quality Field of Six Set for $250,000 Florida Sunshine Millions Classic
The featured race on Saturday at Gulfstream Park is the $250,000 Florida Sunshine Millions Classic. The mile and an eighth contest, restricted to horses bred in Florida, Maryland, New York or Pennsylvania, has drawn a field of six.
The slight favorite at 9-5 on the morning line is Transparent for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. A five-year-old son of Bernardini owned by Godolphin Racing, he has won three of his fourteen starts and will be trying to earn his first stakes victory. With only three starts in 2014, he won an optional claiming race before finishing eighth in the Cigar Mile (G1). He has been training forwardly for his return to action and will have Javier Castellano aboard from post position four.
Wildcat Red a horse for the course at Gulfstream
Second choice at 2-1 on the morning line is Wildcat Red for Jose Garoffalo. A four-year-old son of D’Wildcat, the bay colt has won five of his thirteen starts, all of which have come at Gulfstream Park. A graded stakes winner as a sophomore, he has been training sharply for his four-year-old debut and was second in his last start, the Millions Classic Preview to East Hall who he will face again. Joel Rosario will be aboard for the first time from post five.
East Hall going for third straight win
Also in the field at 5-2 on the morning line is East Hall, the winner of the Millions Classic Preview Stakes for trainer William Kaplan. He has won five of his nineteen career starts and comes into this race off of back to back victories against stakes competition. A four-year-old son of Graeme Hall, the chestnut gelding has been training at Gulfstream Park and will have Luis Saez back in the irons from post position two.
