
Competitive Field of Eight Set for $150,000 Forbidden Apple
Reload has been tabbed as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 for trainer Claude “Shug” McGaughey, III. Bred and owned by the Phipps Stable, the six-year-old son of Hard Spun has won six of his eighteen starts and comes into this race off of a three-race win streak. After winning the Canadian Turf Stakes (G2) in February of 2014, he went to the sidelines for fifteen months and returned last time out to win an optional claiming race. Javier Castellano will be aboard from the rail.
Grand Arch trying to rebound after Turf Classic
Brian Lynch will saddle Grand Arch as the second choice at odds of 3-1 on the morning line. A six-year-old son of Arch, the bay gelding has been on the board in seventeen of his twenty starts and is a graded stakes winner. He is trying to move forward after a sixth-place finish in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (G1) and will have jockey Luis Saez in the irons from post position five.
Wicked Strong trying the turf for the first time
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Wicked Strong who will be making his turf debut for trainer James Jerkens. A four-year-old son of Hard Spun, he has won three of his fourteen starts and was a Grade 1 winner on dirt as a three-year-old. He has gone winless from three starts this year and will break from post position six under jockey Rajiv Maragh.
