Departing Could Outclass $250,000 Delta Mile Field
Several familiar names are among the eight entries in the $250,000 Delta Mile November 21 at Delta Downs on the Delta Jackpot undercard.
Multiple graded stakes winner Departing is the 8/5 morning line favorite for trainer Al Stall, but will have to break a three-race losing streak. Despite career earnings in excess of $1.7 million, Departing has won just 2 of his last 11 races while competing almost exclusively in graded stakes competition. A versatile threat, Departing has raced three times on turf this year while the majority of his 20 career starts have been on dirt. The eight-time winners will receive the services of jockey Colby Hernandez who will be aboard the five year-old gelding for the first time.
Cougar Ride always near the wire
3/1 second choice Cougar Ride has won 10 of 31 starts, while racing predominantly against allowance and minor stakes competition. The Randy Morse trainee enters the Delta Mile on a three race winning streak, including a pair of stakes tallies in the Debartolo Memorial and Remington Green – both of which were contested at Remington Park – before winning a Keeneland allowance race on October 24. Robby Albarado will take the mount while breaking from post 7.
Amoss runner tries to regain form
Trainer Tom Amoss, a Louisiana native, returns to his home state with an intriguing runner in 4/1 veteran Rise Up who will look to get back on track after five consecutive defeats. Rise Up has won 7 of 21 career starts and always seems to be in the mix when he’s in top form with two second place efforts and four thirds to his credit.
