Enterprising the One to Beat in Grade III La Jolla
The Grade III $150,000 La Jolla Handicap headlines the Del Mar card August 9 as a field of six three year-olds line up to contest the mile and a sixteenth race on the grass.
Enterprising is the 2/1 morning line favorite for top turf trainer Tom Proctor after winning the Oceanside Stakes over the Del Mar turf course July 17 and finishing in the money in his last seven starts. Enterprising, a multiple stakes winner, faces a field collectively absent of a stakes win, but he will again have to defeat Argyle Cut – his Oceanside nemesis.
Schoolofhard rocks back in CA after shipping
Schoolofhardrocks is the 5/2 second choice after shipping to Arlington Park and running fourth in the Grade III American Derby August 12. The turn-back to a shorter distance should suit him well. The David Hofmans trainee finished eighth and fourth respectively in his other two graded stakes attempts, but both of those efforts were on dirt in the grade I Santa Anita Derby and grade II San Felipe respectively. Since moving to the grass three starts back, Schoolofhardrocks has seemingly found his preferred surface.
Argyle Cut tries to turn the tables
At 7/2, Argyle Cut must prove that he can overcome his propensity to run second. The William Morey trained colt has hit the bottom half of the exacta in four of his last five starts including the Singletary Stakes at Santa Anita and Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar. He could very well show improvement making his second start over the Del Mar lawn.
