Louisiana Stakes Initiates Stakes Bonanza at Fair Grounds
With five stakes races on tap Saturday, December 16 at Fair Grounds, horseplayers from around the country are sure to be locked in to an appetizing card that begins with the $75,000 Louisiana Stakes in race 7 as a field of seven will contest the mile and one sixteenth event on the main track.
Eagle (2/1) is a runner that showed a great deal of promise as a juvenile, but missed the bulk of his three year-old season before returning last fall to win three straight races culminating with the Tenacious Stakes in December at Fair Grounds. The Neil Howard trainee has won five of nine starts in his career for earnings of just under $200,000 and appears to be hitting his best stride. Jockey Brain Hernandez junior will be aboard the talented runner who will break from post 4.
Majestic Harbor trying to find winner's circle
Veteran campaigner Majestic Harbor (3/1) is a former Grade 1 winner, but has failed to find the winner’s circle in six straight starts – all in graded stakes events. The eight year-old Paul McGee trainee finished third last out in the Grade 3 Hawthorne Gold Cup November 28 and has hit the board in each of his last four races, including a pair of second-place efforts in grade 2 events. Majestic Harbor has more than enough back class and solid recent form to make him a major player.
Freestyler worth a look
Freestyler (4/1) will try to turn the tables on Eagle after finishing second to that runner in the Tenacious Stakes. The six year-old gelding is trained by Joe Sharp and has won 10 of 27 career races.
