Mid-Week Stakes Racing Features The Hockessin Stakes at Delaware
A field of twelve hard-knocking older horses are scheduled to compete in Wednesday’s $50,000 Hockessin Stakes at Delaware Park which is to be run at six furlongs on the main track. High percentage trainer David Jacobson will saddle the two of the top choices.
Tabbed as the 7-2 morning line favorite for the Jacobson barn is Royal Currier for owner Gold Square, LLC. Trevor McCarthy has been named to ride the six-year-old gelded son of Red Bullet. Royal Currier is a multiple stakes winner who has gone winless since earning his twelfth career victory back in 2012. He was last seen finishing second via disqualification in the Diablo Stakes at Belmont Park.
Veteran Immortal Eyes comes back after short layoff
Also hailing from the Jacobson barn is millionaire Immortal Eyes. The nine-year-old gelding has been installed at 5-1 morning line and will have veteran rider Jose Caraballo aboard. With 19 wins from 50 starts, the former graded stakes level competitor is the most accomplished contender in the full field. He will be making his first start since a runner-up performance in the Charlestown Dash Handicap in April.
Service for Ten eyeing second consecutive win
Also in the field is Service for Ten, second choice on the morning line at 4-1. Daniel Centeno is named to ride for Emanuel Geralis. The five-year-old gelded son of Service Stripe has been on the board in all four starts this year and comes into this race out of a win as the even-money favorite in an allowance race at Charlestown. He has won half of his sixteen outings and has a win at Delaware Park to his credit.
