No Nay Never Tops Loaded Field for $1 Million Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the Breeders Cup action continues with the $1 million Breeders Cup Turf Sprint. Run at six and a half furlongs on the downhill turf course, the Grade 1 race has drawn a full field of fourteen with two addition contenders on the also-eligible list.
The globe-trotting No Nay Never has been installed as the 9-2 morning line favorite for trainer Wesley Ward. A three-year-old son of Scat Daddy, the dark bay colt competed in France and Great Britain as a juvenile and returned stateside in March for the Swale (G2) where he finished second. After a seven-month break, he made his return a winning one in the Woodford (G3). Since that race, he has clocked a bullet at Keeneland and will have Frankie Dettori aboard from the outside post.
Perennial bridesmaid Reneesgotzip poised for big effor
Second choice at 5-1 on the morning line is Reneesgotzip, the runner-up in this Turf Sprint in 2013 and third in 2012. Trained by Peter Miller, the five-year-old daughter of City Zip has never won on turf and seven of her eight wins have come on synthetics. She went gate to wire to win her last race at Del Mar as the heavy favorite and has been training steadily since then. Edwin Maldonado, aboard last time, will remain in the irons from the rail.
Bobby's Kitten cutting back to a sprint
Also in the field at 10-1 on the morning line is Bobby’s Kitten, a homebred son of Kitten’s Joy for owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey. Trained by Chad Brown, the three-year-old colt is named in honor of the late Bobby Frankel. The bay colt has won two of his six starts this year and will be cutting back to a sprint for the first time after competing primarily around two turns. He was last seen finishing third in the Woodbine Mile (G1) and will have Joel Rosario aboard from post six.
