Obviously Tackles Euros in $2 Million BC Turf Mile
The Turf Mile is one of the more intriguing betting races of Breeders Cup weekend with the defection of Wise Dan a back to back winner of the race and two-time American Horse of the Year.
As expected, the European contingency holds a strong hand, led my 5/2 morning line favorite Toronado who has raced exclusively in Group 1 company at the one mile distance this year across the pond. Of his three starts in 2014, Toronado has one win and two second place finishes. In his most recent start, the Richard Hannon trained colt was beaten just a head in the prestigious Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp. The son of former Breeders’ Cup Turf winner High Chaparral will receive Lasix for the first time in his career and should find a comfortable tracking position behind the speed.
Obviously could get comfortable on the lead
Obviously (8/1) has fired some of his best races over the Santa Anita green, and his two races over the course this year are good enough to win this race. The Phillip D’Amato trainee has eight wins in twelve lifetime starts at the one mile distance, and must be considered given his ability and early speed. Obviously is likely to set the pace under jockey Joe Talamo who has ridden the six-year-old gelding in twelve consecutive races.
European three year-olds must be considered
Veda (12/1) and Mustajeeb (6/1) are improving three year-old European imports that can factor in the Turf Mile. Both have raced against top-class competition in Europe and both will receive Lasix for the first time.
