Queen's Plate Draws Deep Field at Woodbine
With a full field of 13 gathered for the 157th renewal of the $1 million Queen’s Plate Sunday, July 3 at Woodbine, the once-beaten Amis Gizmo is tabbed as the one to to beat at odds of 3/1 despite drawing post 10 against a competitive group of three year-olds.
Trained by Josie Carroll, Amis Gizmo has shown plenty of versatility in his previous races, which should give jockey Jose Contreras plenty of options while being able to survey the field from the outside. Carroll will also saddle the late-breaking filly Gamble's Ghost who is 6/1 on the morning line. The pair represent a potent 1-2 punch in the 2016 Queen's Plate with Patrick Husbands scheduled to ride the filly.
Leavem plans to do just that
Leavem in Malibu is the second choice at 7/2 odds on the morning line for trainer Mark Casse. The son of Malibu Moon got the better of older allowance horses in his last start and will be ridden by Gary Boulanger who teams up with Casse at an impressive clip. Leavem in Malibu appears to be rounding into his best form at the right time and could represent fair value if close to his morning line price at post time.
Prices abound in strong field
The balance of the field includes a variety of challengers with a legitimate chance including Esposito (8/1) who won a seven furlong allowance race June 5 for trainer Tom Proctor. All on Red and Scholar Athlete are the next closest choices at 12/1 apiece.
