Tap to It Makes Three-Year-Old Debut in $65,000 Margate Handicap
On Sunday at Gulfstream Park, the featured race is the $65,000 Margate Handicap. Restricted to three-year-old fillies, the stakes race has been carded at six and a half furlongs and has drawn a field of eight.
Tap to It tops the wide open field as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 for trainer Ralph Nicks. A gray daughter of Tapit, she was purchased for $400,000 as a yearling and has one win from three starts. After breaking her maiden in her debut, she went on to finish second in the Spinaway Stakes (G1) before finishing sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). She has clocked a recent bullet workout and will have Joel Rosario in the irons from post position six.
Off the Tracks returning off of seven-month layoff
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Off the Tracks for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. A bay daughter of Curlin, she is undefeated from two starts and was a graded stakes winner as a juvenile. She has been on the sidelines since winning the Schuylerville Stakes (G3) at Saratoga in July and returned to the worktab in January. Edgard Zayas will be aboard and they will break from post position seven.
Class test for longshot maiden winner Always Thinking
Also in the field at morning line odds of 10-1 is Always Thinking for trainer Tom Albertrani. A bay daughter of Street Sense bred by Darley, she will be stepping up to stakes competition for the first time after breaking her maiden in her debut. She defeated ten rivals and sprung an upset at odds of nearly 20-1 at Gulfstream Park in December. Javier Castellano will be aboard for the first time and they will break from post eight.
