Well-Bred Fillies Square Off in $100,000 Ginger Brew Stakes
The $100,000 Ginger Brew Stakes for three year-old fillies January 3 at Gulfstream Park features a field of ten set to go seven and a half furlongs on the turf course in a contentious race.
Right On Kitten is the 7/2 morning line favorite for trainer Michael Maker and owner Ken Ramsey after beginning her career with consecutive wins - including a three length score last out in the $100,000 La Senorita Stakes at Retama October October 11. Right on Kitten has been training steadily for Maker at Gulfstream, but will likely have to improve from a Beyer Speed Figure standpoint to earn her third victory in a row. The daughter of Kitten’s Joy has posted Beyers of 61 and 62 in her two starts, using a stalk and pounce style of trip.
Plenty to like about Devine Aida
Devine Aida (9/2) took to the turf last out, defeating $75,000 optional claimers at Gulfstream West in her first start on the grass. She earned a 71 Beyer in that race and figures to improve upon that number as most runners do in their second start on turf. Additionally, the Ramon Morales trainee will receive Lasix medication for the first time – another factor that could suggest improvement.
Cardinal Cove looking for three straight
Cardinal Cove (5/1) started her career two for two on the grass, posting wins at Gulfstream West and Tampa. The daughter of turf champion Leroidesanimaux has shown a strong closing kick in both starts, and has the pedigree to move forward.
